Oil Tank Installation

Tank Capacity

The average home consumes 1,000 gallons of fuel each year and should have a 275 gallon tank. Larger homes, with higher annual consumption, should have a 330 or 550 gallon tank. Homes that are difficult to reach in icy or snowy conditions should consider additional storage.

Buried Oil Tank?

Most buried oil tanks are over 20 years of age. If you have one, we recommend replacing it with an above ground or basement tank.

Above Ground Outside Tanks

We install many tanks outside next to your house, but it’s not an ideal setup. If you decide on an outside tank, it’s best to enclose the tank and lines in an insulated shed. This helps prevent frozen oil lines, tank rust, and condensation.

Basement and Garage Tanks

Your basement is the best place to have your oil line installed. It stays moderately warm and dry year-round. A garage is your next best option, but legally, we’ll be required to install crash poles to protect your tank, even if you don’t park your car in the garage.

The most common oil tank we install is the Granby Ecogard Tank. Most customers choose the 275 gallon size. It has electrostatic powder coated paint to protect against corrosion, and a double bottom with a leak monitoring system. The tank comes with a 25 year  warranty against manufacturing defects when you register it.

The Roth Double Wall tank has a galvanized steel outer tank protecting a high-density, seamless polyethylene inner tank. This increases the longevity of the tank and dramatically reduces the chance of a leak. It’s perfect for installation outdoors or in finished basements.
